Hard Rock Cafe Chicago to Close After Nearly 40 Years
January 22, 2025
The iconic Hard Rock Cafe in River North will permanently close its doors on March 29, 2025. Located at 63 W. Ontario Street, the restaurant has been a Chicago staple since opening nearly four decades ago. Known for its giant guitar sign and rock memorabilia, it’s been a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists.
End of an Era
Hard Rock International hasn’t shared specific reasons for the closure but promises to support employees with outplacement resources and opportunities at other locations. Nearby Hard Rock Cafes in Rockford, Illinois, and Northern Indiana will remain open.
Changing Times in River North
The closure is the latest in a series of changes to River North’s dining scene. The Rainforest Cafe at 605 N. Clark Street closed in 2020, and the Rock n' Roll McDonald’s at Clark and Ontario underwent a major remodel in 2017, losing much of its rock-themed charm.
What’s Next?
Fans have until March to visit and say goodbye to this beloved spot. Its departure leaves questions about what will replace it, as River North continues to evolve as a hub for food and culture.
