Kohl’s to Close Two Illinois Stores Amid Nationwide Downsizing

January 14, 2025
Kohl’s has announced plans to close 27 underperforming stores across 15 states by April 2025, including two locations in Illinois:

1. Plainfield: 11860 S. Route 59
2. West Dundee: 3000 Spring Hill Ring Road

This move is part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and address declining sales, as the retailer has faced 11 consecutive quarters of decreasing revenue.

Employees at the affected stores have been informed and are being offered severance packages or opportunities to apply for other roles within the company.

In addition to the store closures, Kohl’s will shut down its e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino, California, by May 2025.

This decision reflects a larger trend in the retail industry, with companies like Macy’s and Walgreens also announcing significant reductions in their physical store counts.
