Conference of the birds

September 3, 2024

Award-winning choreographer and 2018 Drama Desk nominee Nejla Yatkin returns to her hometown, Chicago, to create a site-specific dance performance at the Burnham Wildlife Corridor (BWC). This interactive promenade-style performance will take the audience from the Caracol Gathering Space to La Ronda Parakata Gathering Space along the lakefront. Inspired by bird flocking behavior, local participants will guide the audience in a movement practice designed to transform perceptions and engage with the environment in unexpected ways.

Throughout the summer, Yatkin will work with local community members through dance and movement workshops, heightening their senses and inspiring the final performance. Filmmaker Enki Andrews will document this transformative process, creating a short documentary video.

The free public performances will take place on September 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, and 16 from 5-7pm.
