Apple to Close Northbrook Court Store Amid Mall’s Decline
February 24, 2025
NORTHBROOK, IL – Apple has announced it will permanently close its retail store at Northbrook Court Mall, marking the latest in a string of retail departures from the struggling shopping center. While an exact closing date has not been confirmed, reports suggest the store may shut down later in 2025, aligning with its 20th anniversary.
In a statement, Apple cited Northbrook Court’s ongoing redevelopment and the departure of multiple retailers as key factors in the decision. The tech giant reassured that employees affected by the closure will have opportunities to transition to other nearby Apple Store locations, including those in Skokie, Lincoln Park, and downtown Chicago.
The Northbrook Court Apple Store originally opened in 2005 on the lower level before relocating to a 7,600-square-foot space on the second level in 2017. Its closure is part of a broader trend of Apple reevaluating its retail presence in struggling malls.
Northbrook Court itself has faced significant challenges in recent years, with anchor stores such as Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, and Lululemon closing their locations. In response, Brookfield Property Partners, the mall’s owner, has launched an $825 million redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing the space with new retail, dining, and residential developments.
For customers in the area, Apple products and services remain available at other nearby Apple Store locations and online. As Northbrook Court navigates its transformation, it remains to be seen what role Apple—or any major retailer—will play in the mall’s future.
